The eagerly anticipated line-up for this year’s TRNSMT festival has been announced.
The big reveal of acts playing this year’s event, which takes place in Glasgow Green from 12-14 July 2019, was handed over to fans who guessed acts from a selection of clues on the TRNSMT Facebook page.
Rapper Stormzy headlines on the Friday night, with local star Gerry Cinnamon – who is playing his third TRNSMT – also scheduled for the main stage.
Years & Years, AJ Tracey, Fredo, Aminé and Mabel are also playing.
Saturday’s headliners are Catfish & The Bottlemen, with Bastille and former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft among others on the main stage.
George Ezra and Snow Patrol will bring the festival to a close on Sunday night, with Jess Glynne, Tom Grennan and The Kooks earlier in the day.
A host of up and coming acts will perform on the King Tut’s Stage throughout the weekend.
Festival organiser Geoff Ellis said: “I’m very pleased with [the line-up], particularly on the Friday having Stormzy and Gerry Cinnamon – it’s fair to say they’re both people’s poets really.
“They’ve both come from the street, they’re both very real and very connected with their fans, both have really energetic live shows.
“Whilst they’re very different musically, I think they’ve got a lot more in common than people would think at first look. I think that’s a great line-up on the Friday.
“Catfish and the Bottlemen are one of the biggest, strongest live acts to come out of the UK as a band since Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys – they’re a band that can sell tens of thousands of tickets in their own right.
“Bastille have great anthems, likewise with Richard Ashcroft with all The Verve anthems. And DMA’s, Scotland seems to be their strongest territory.
“On Sunday to have George Ezra close the show is a real fan’s favourite. Snow Patrol have been away for a long time and had a storming night at the Hydro a couple of weeks ago. Played a greatest hits song with a few new songs as well.
“Jess Glynne is another act that’s sold out the Hydro. Put that together over one weekend is a fantastic line-up and great value for money, I think.”
Londoner Stormzy will also headline one night of the famous Glastonbury festival the month before TRNSMT which Ellis said was a “coup” for Scotland.
He said: “Glastonbury is four times the size of TRNSMT so it’s great, I’m really pleased Stormzy wanted to do it.”
Speaking about Snow Patrol alluding to their TRNSMT appearance at a recent Glasgow gig, Ellis shrugged off the incident and said: “Sometimes these things slip out.
“Example did the same the other Friday night and announced to his crowd he was playing TRNSMT as well and he got a great reaction.”
In 2017 the inaugural TRNSMT was headlined by Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro.
Last year the festival was held over two weekends with Stereophonics, Liam Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys headlining one weekend and Queen + Adam Lambert and The Killers the other.
Ellis added: “With TRNSMT some years we will hold it over two weekends and other years will just be one weekend – this year is just one.
“It will depend on artists’ availability, we’re not going to do two weekends for the sake of it but if there’s enough strong artists around then we will do two weekends. We’ll always be flexible on that.”
When asked about a possible return for T in the Park, Ellis said: “It’s all TRNSMT.
“We’ve got Summer Sessions in Glasgow and Edinburgh and about 800 other concerts throughout the year we do as well, so we’ve got enough to keep ourselves busy at the moment.”
