Trump will stop US from ‘blowing hundreds of billions of dollars’ on Ukraine, claims son

It comes after experts warned a Donald Trump victory could see the war spilling out into other European nations.

Eric Trump has signalled his father would halt financial backing for Ukraine if he wins the next US election, describing the war with Russia as a fight between “identical people on either side of an invisible line getting murdered in the tens and hundreds of thousands”.

Speaking at a visit to the family’s Trump International golf resort in Aberdeenshire on Saturday, Eric said his father would stop America from “blowing hundreds of billions of dollars” on the conflict.

It comes after experts warned a Donald Trump victory could see the war spilling out into other European nations and force the UK Government to reconsider its post-Brexit relationship with the EU.

Academics say rhetoric around weakening support for Ukraine and other European nations must be a “wake-up call” for the whole continent.

They fear it could lead to a victory for Russia and an emboldened Kremlin setting its sights on territory further afield.

However, Eric claimed there will “never be a better ally for the UK and the West than Donald Trump”.

He said: “I think the entire world was laughing at the Biden-Harris administration.

“I don’t care where you go. I got off the plane in Ireland and people were laughing at her. I got off the plane in the UK and people couldn’t believe the weakness in America with the administration.

“Things are falling apart around the world and that is not good for anybody. It is not good for the UK.

“You see that universally. You have a conflict in Russia-Ukraine which would never have happened under my father, the Middle East is a total hornet’s nest, Israel – the greatest ally of the west in the Middle East – is totally under siege in so many ways.

“The world has become a hotbed of nonsense. None of that was taking place under my father.”

Can Donald Trump win in November?

Asked if he is confident his father will win, Eric said: “Yes, absolutely, if people want to go back to having the best economy on earth and the best employment and being the strongest superpower on earth and respected by everybody.

“We are not blowing hundreds of billions of dollars on endless wars where you have identical people on either side of an invisible line getting murdered in the tens and hundreds of thousands.”

Asked to clarify what wars he was referring to, Eric added: “Russia and Ukraine. It is so senseless, so sad.

“He wants to see the violence stop, he wants to see the cities safe. He wants to see people able to live the American dream.”

The 40-year-old businessman said he is “sure” his father would meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Russian president Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a bid to end conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.

He added: “Every day you see more rockets fired killing children – it has got to stop. If you had someone with a bit more backbone and fortitude it would stop.”

Trump agrees to debate Harris

Meanwhile, Donald Trump says he has agreed with Fox News to debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4.

In a post on social media, Donald Trump gave details of the debate venue and the moderators, saying it would be held before a full audience.

However, it is not clear whether Harris has signed up to the event.

His claim came just hours after she secured the Democratic presidential nomination.

Harris was thrust onto centre stage following the withdrawal of President Joe Biden after months of controversy over whether he is too old to run.

Trump, who at 78-years-old will now be the oldest presidential nominee ever, previously insisted he would not debate her.

But he faced growing pressure after she publicly dared him to face her.

Speaking at a campaign event in Atlanta, Harris said: “Well Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage, because as the saying goes, if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”

Fox News confirmed the debate will have “spectators” and follow similar rules to the CNN debate between Trump and Biden.

The news channel said it has invited Trump and Harris to participate in Pennsylvania in September.
