EMERGENCY services have attended the scene of an explosion in Newmains, near Wishaw.
Two people have been injured in the incident which occurred on Bonkle Road in the North Lanarkshire village.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said a man and a woman have been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary accompanied by trauma doctors in the wake of the incident, which saw an air ambulance scrambled.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1335 hours on Thursday 5 October 2017, police were called to a report of an explosion within a building in Bonkle Road, Newmains, Wishaw.
“Emergency services are at the scene and two injured parties are being treated by ambulance.
“Police enquiries are ongoing and a number of nearby properties are being evacuated at a precaution.”

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters are currently tackling a small fire with powerful water jets.
“Two casualties are being treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
Locals reported hearing a loud noise earlier this afternoon.
John Wright tweeted: “Something just exploded or hit the ground in newmains, my whole house just shook, anyone know ?”
On Facebook, Barry Carlin wrote: “There was a loud bang that shook my windows and then all I’ve heard for the last half hour is sirens.”
