RAIL services in Ayrshire have been impacted by flooding, with a stretch of the Kilmarnock line closed this afternoon.
Trains to the town and beyond are still subject to delay and cancellation as the line between Barrhead and Kilmarnock reopens following inspection by Network Rail engineers.
A ScotRail statement said: “We’ll start to run a normal service as soon as we can through Kilmarnock, but this will take a bit of time as trains & crews are out of position.”
The rail operator shared a video on Twitter showing the flooded stretch, and said replacement bus services will remain in operation until services resume as timetabled.
Trains from Glasgow to Kilmarnock, Stranraer and Girvan as well as Carlisle and Dumfries use the line.
Here's the flooding on the #Kilmarnock line. As the water is flowing and nearly above one of the rails, we can't run any trains until @NetworkRailSCOT engineers have confirmed that no ballast (stones which help hold the tracks in place) has been washed away. ^AD pic.twitter.com/yPJOZBtijf

An earlier signal fault between Larbert and Croy has also been causing disruption throughout the day.
Services from Glasgow to Aberdeen, Stirling, Falkirk, Cumbernauld and Alloa continue to be affected.
