For 100 years, thrillseekers have been making special memories over a spin on the carousel, the twists and turns of the rollercoasters and a bite of candyfloss at Glasgow’s annual Christmas carnival.
From families enjoying a festive day out to young couples taking a romantic trip on the Ferris wheel and friends bashing each other on the dodgems, it’s become an annual tradition for many Scots.
But for some, it’s become a defining part of their lives.
Glasgow accountant Mark Mulholland, 51, has a lifelong fascination with the carnival to thank for finding the love of his life, Kathy.
The pair met when Mark was on a night out with colleagues after bagging a second job helping out on one of the giant rollercoasters having curiously staked out its arrival and assembly.
Their first date, where else but at the carnival, seemed to go quite well – resulting in two teddy bear prizes and a relationship that would turn into a marriage later that year.
