A NEW video has given Glaswegians a better look at the new carriages heading for the city’s Subway in the coming years.
Railway guru Geoff Marshall, who recently produced a video on the secrets of the Glasgow Subway, spotted the newbuild by Swiss firm Stadler at a railway manufactures expo in Germany.
He took a tour inside to film a video for his popular YouTube channel, revealing their fresher look and spacious interior.
It follows Glasgow Subway sharing images taken inside the new carriages earlier this week.
They’re scheduled to arrive into service in 2020, and are expected to run with drivers before switching to driverless operation once the system is ready for it and adaptations have been made.
Trains will run with four carriages instead of the three, but will be the same length and size as those currently seen on the network due to the Subway’s dimensions.
They’ll also be able to offer wheelchair access between Govan and St Enoch stations.
The new trains form part of the Subway’s modernisation programme and are to be tested in the city soon.
The reaction on Facebook to the pictures posted by SPT was mostly positive.
Rosey Barnet commented: “Can’t wait to ride in one, looks fantastic.”
Lindsey Meanie wrote: “I’m glad there are now screens. This will improve accessibility for deaf people and tourists to see what stop is next.”
And David MacGregor said: “These look great. But will they Shoogle?”
Some, however, were concerned about the potential of driverless services.
Kevin Hunter wrote: “If they’re driverless I won’t be going near them.”
