50 YEARS ago today, Celtic’s famous Lisbon Lions lifted the European Cup.
Under the management of Jock Stein, their 2-1 victory over Inter Milan meant that the Hoops became the first British team to win the trophy.
Remarkably, all of Celtic’s players were born within 30 miles of Glasgow.
Inter Milan opened the scoring in the match after seven minutes, when Sandro Mazzola netted a penalty.
But Celtic equalised through Tommy Gemmell, and Stevie Chalmers scored the winner on a night that is considered the greatest in Celtic history.
