THE first trailer for Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan’s new film set on an uninhabited Hebridean island has been released.
Saban Films’ The Vanishing is an independent, psychological thriller following the mysterious disappearance of three lighthouse keepers from the Scottish island of Eilan Mor.
The film is based on the real-life events of the Flannan Isles lighthouse mystery, which saw three men disappear without a trace during a terrible storm in 1900.
No bodies were ever found, and the island was void of any clues to help the investigation, aside from a few unsolvable irregularities.

The new film, starring Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan, Connor Swindells, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Gary Lewis, follows a tense battle for survival, fed by isolation, paranoia and greed.
The film will be released in January 2019, and is the feature debut for Danish director Kristoffer Nyholm, who recently worked on the BBC and FX’s Taboo starring Tom Hardy.
The film premiered at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain in October.
