RELATIVES of a Scot murdered in Spain say they have been given new hope of discovering who killed him.
Coatbridge man Craig Mallon died in 2012 after being punched outside a nightclub in the seaside resort of Lloret de Mar.
Several witnesses to Craig’s death had been caught on CCTV but not identified.
But after a documentary highlighting the 26-year-old’s murder aired earlier this year, several viewers contacted Craig’s family and their case reviewer, former detective superintendent, David Swindle with information.
Now Mr Swindle says one of the men caught on CCTV has been positively identified as a 31-year-old man from the Parisian suburb of Bobigny, and details have been handed over to a Spanish judge.
Craig’s aunt Gillian Veldon said: “We are absolutely delighted with the latest development.
“It’s a positive step for us and another step forward in getting justice for Craig.”
Mr Swindle said: “French individuals have featured as significant in Craig’s case since the start.
“While there is no evidence to confirm these four French men were involved in fatally assaulting Craig, they were in the immediate area at the time and have not been interviewed.”
