THE MET OFFICE has issued a Yellow warning for eastern Scotland with snow on the way.
A fresh winter blast is set to arrive from Monday onwards, with showers or longer periods of snow set to affect eastern parts of the UK during Tuesday.
The warning for Scotland is in place between 3am and 11:55pm.
Scotland’s Transport Minister Humza Yousaf tweeted: “Off a call with Met Office & ScotGovt Resilience Team. Clear we are going to have challenging weather over course of next week.
“Worst impacts in East but West could also be affected. Yellow warning for snow/ice covers most of Tuesday.
“Weather has the potential to worsen as the week progresses. Our Operating Companies will be carrying out many treatments across the Trunk Road network.
“As always, heed travel warnings, plan ahead, drive to conditions and follow @trafficscotland for updates.”
Weather: ‘Beast from the east’ cold spell set to hit parts of Scotland
It comes as a flow of air from Russia, nicknamed the ‘beast from the east’, will see the mercury dip to below freezing across most of the country next week.
Forecasters said temperatures will not get above 2C in Scotland’s cities, and could even drop to lows of -5C. In rural areas of Tayside and Fife, -8C is likely.
It’s part of a weather phenomenon known as a Sudden Stratospheric Warming.
