The arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child, possibly this week as they celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary, will have genealogists redrawing the Royal family tree.
The baby will take his or her place in the regal pecking order after Prince George, but ahead of his/her uncle Harry.
In the past, the simple fact of being male meant boys took precedence over their sisters, regardless of age.
Now, thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act (2013) which came into force this March, that no longer applies.
Unfortunately for the likes of the Princess Royal, who was sidestepped by her two younger brothers, it’s not retrospective. Otherwise, she’d be at number six, two places behind the new arrival.
So how does the Royal line of succession stand now? While most of the top 10 names may be familiar, those further down may leave you scratching your head.
