As president of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron is no stranger to the ruthless cut and thrust of Westminster politics.
So perhaps it’s no surprise that his favourite holiday involves peace, quiet and tranquility.
The MP lives in Cumbria with his wife Rosie, daughters Isabella and Gracie and sons Jude and Laurie.
He was first elected in 2005 for the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency.
Outside of his duties Tim, a Blackburn Rovers fan, plays football and enjoys fell running and walking in the Lake District.
But when it comes to holidays, Tim would rather pack up his car for a holiday in Britain, than jet set across the globe.
“My favourite place in the world is the Hebrides anywhere there is great, but I am particularly fond of Islay.
“It stands out from all other places because it is spectacularly beautiful, especially the high Loch Indaal that almost splits the island in two. I love the thought that you are surrounded by water.
“We drive up from Cumbria and catch the ferry from Kennacraig.
“And the first thought when I get there is: ‘Yes! I can spend quality time with my family’. Then the first thing that hits me is the breathtaking view.
“I love the whole island, there’s some great running and walking to be done there. And the beach at Sennaigmore is better than anything available on the Mediterranean.
“There is not one thing you can pick out. It really is the whole package the kind locals, the stunning views and just the tranquillity of the isle. I don’t think anywhere in the world can top that.
“I love the view though across the water to the lighthouse on Orsay from Portnahaven a beautiful village.
“I made up a bedtime story once about my youngest child being the Orsay lighthouse keeper and thwarting pirates with the aid of his brother and sister and the dog.
“The best meal I had there was at a great curry house in Bowmore.
“But my favourite local dish is not a dish, it’s a drink!
“Despite Islay being the whisky island, I love Islay Ales, which has its brewery at Bridgend.
“My favourite is called Finlaggan.
“When I’m in the Hebrides, I feel remote from the world and close to my family. Being able to spend some quality time with them away from the parlour games of the Westminster village is lovely.
“And it’s great to be able to get off the beaten track, explore the Highlands and Islands and have a dram or two.
“That’s what makes a family holiday special for me.
