Last night the Oor Wullie statues from the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail raised an incredible sum of money at the Dundee Rep auction.
In total £883,000 was raised for the Archie Foundation’s bid to place a new specialist unit in the Tayside Children’s Hospital at Ninewells.
There were gasps from the audience as the characters who have thrilled countless thousands during their summer display across Scotland went under the hammer.
The bidding war was frenzied after the first lot went for £14,000 – far more than pre-event estimates.
The record was £50,000 for Oor Original Wullie, while Minecraft went for £34,000 to an online bidder.
There were a total of 70 Wullies up for grabs, but how much did your favourite sculpture go for?
Archie Foundation representatives were very happy and humbled by the result:
Richard Prest, editor of the Sunday Post, said: “The auction was a brilliant occasion, packed with excitement and drama. The Sunday Post was delighted to have played a small part in its success by successfully bidding for the Astro Wullie.”
