Big Yin’s independence vote fears.
Despite many invitations to air his views, Billy stayed out of the independence campaign and didn’t cast a vote in last week’s referendum.
As you’d expect, however, he has definite views on the current situation and Scotland’s future.
“It has actually turned out to be quite depressing,” he told me. “I remember thinking as the polls got closer, down to 52% against 48%, 51% and 49%, and I thought no matter what way it goes now, almost half the country is going to be hacked off.
“It has created this kind of anti-climatic atmosphere and if Cameron doesn’t come up with his promises I don’t know what will happen. There will be quite a rumble.
“I was excited that so many 60 and 70-year-olds got involved in politics, let alone 16 and 17-year-olds. There hasn’t been another election like that in the world … 88% turn-out, astonishing!”
What We Did on Our Holiday is at cinemas now. Billy’s High Horse tour begins tomorrow, in Aberdeen. For further dates, see www.billyconnolly.com.
