A body has been recovered from a car that entered the River Clyde earlier today.
Police Scotland confirmed that after a search of the water, the body of a woman was removed.
She was the only occupant of the car.
A spokesperson said: “A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death.
“The car remains in the water at this time and efforts are ongoing to remove it.
“Enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of how the vehicle came to enter the River Clyde, with crash scene examiners conducting an investigation at the location.
“Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact officers at Greenock Police Office through 101.”
The incident happened at Renfrew at about 1.20pm on Thursday.

Police said the incident took place at the bottom of Lapwing Road, which is close to Intu Braehead shopping centre.
A small crowd of people have gathered near the scene, a residential area close to the shopping centre.
The car was seen driving “at speed” and clipping another two cars before breaching the metal fence and entering the water.
A coastguard helicopter was at the scene but was not in the air.
One resident who asked not to be named said: “I heard a loud noise and minutes later there were police everywhere then the helicopter arrived.”
