Sick thieves have desecrated the grave of a schoolboy who died in a fireball accident.
The grieving parents of Preston Flores, 7, say they are devastated their little boy’s last resting place has been so callously targeted.
Dad Keith Will, 33, and his partner Luisza Fes, 33, are still traumatised by the horror of what happened to Preston who became engulfed in flames as he played on the street just yards from his Aberdeen home last April.
They were recently forced to endure the sight of their son in flames when internet trolls posted mobile phone footage online.
And now they say they are struggling to cope with the latest blow after thieves stole lights bought to illuminate Preston’s grave at the city’s Hazlehead cemetery.
Keith, his voice hoarse with emotion, revealed: “Luisza cannot bear to think of our son alone there in the dark, so she wanted lights on his grave. Preston was our wee star so when it came to choosing the lights it seemed right that they should be in the shape of stars.
“We put them into two lanterns on the grave. They were only worth about £40. But now they are gone. I can’t understand how anyone can do this to a child’s grave. It is sick. Things like this make it so hard for us to move forward. ”
He added: “Luisza still cannot bring herself to go to the grave. So me and other relatives go there most days and try our hardest to make it beautiful for him.
“We don’t have our little boy with us to buy him Christmas and birthday presents. That has been taken from us. We can only buy things for his grave. It’s all we have left of him, that, and our memories.”
Keith says family members are mounting a daily vigil at the grave to ward off thieves. He is calling for CCTV to be installed at the cemetery.
Police launched an investigation in September after cruel web bullies taunted Preston’s family with footage of him engulfed in flames. Sickeningly one mobile phone video clip posted so Preston’s distraught mum could see it was set to the pop track Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys.
Mum Luisza, who lives with the memory of rushing to her son’s aid and pulling burning clothes from his body, said: “We are at breaking point. My family is being given no peace to grieve. The memories of that day go round in our heads and haunt us all the time.”
Grief-stricken Keith and Luisza previously revealed in The Sunday Post that they are demanding a Fatal Accident Inquiry.
The couple who are also parents to Dylan, 17, Leroy, 15, Shanelle, 11, and Leighton, 1 have claimed that a police investigation into their son’s death, which found no criminality had occurred, failed to provide the family with answers.
They want to know how Preston came to be covered in the flammable liquid and how it was ignited.
A report into the tragedy is now with the Procurator Fiscal. Health and Safety officials also launched an investigation.
