A body found at a remote Scottish beauty spot is believed to be that of missing Russian student Yulia Solodyankina.
The Edinburgh University physics student had been missing for seven months, sparking a nationwide search.
The body was found on a forest track near Arrochar, in Argyll, by two hillwalkers.
Before her disappearance the 22-year-old is believed to been suffering tremendous stress brought on by the pressure of honours year exams. Her family were yesterday travelling from Moscow to identify the body, which was found near the A83 at the north end of Loch Long.
Her French boyfriend, Antoine Dao, 21, an engineering student, had searched tirelessly for her since her disappearance. The couple had been going out for six months and had become “very close” according to friends.
Yulia’s father, Dmitry Solodyankina, an electricity company director, said he was unable to speak about the tragic development. He has visited Scotland previously, searching desperately for his daughter, an only child, and appealing for her to get in touch.
Posters were distributed featuring a message from him in Russian reading: “Yulia, come back, we love you. Nothing else matters.”
Yulia, was last seen leaving a concert at the Wee Red Bar in Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, on Thursday, June 6. She was to have performed with her dance music group, Anansi, but left before they took to the stage saying she was unwell.
The wooded area where the body was found has cordoned off as forensic teams examine the scene.
A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
