He has an international fan base, had a book written about him, and even appeared on TV.
Now Hamish McHamish, the ginger cat from St Andrews who melted people’s hearts by wandering in and out of the town’s shops, has been immortalised in bronze.
The Sunday Post has been given an exclusive sneak preview of the Greyfriars Bobby-style statue ahead of its unveiling next month.
The sculpture was inspired by Flora Selwyn and created by artist David Annand after locals raised £5,000 to fund it.
Flora, 80, who has been the puss’s paparazzi for the last seven years, said: “Everyone loves Hamish. People look out for him and feed him.
“He waits for the traffic lights to change before he crosses the road.”
The statue of the 15-year-old moggy will sit on a stone plinth in Logies Lane.
Hamish’s owner, Marianne Baird, 72, has been taken aback by his popularity.
She said: “When he was about one he started his wandering ways.
“Once a year, I have to search to find him so I can take him to the vet for his health check.”
