A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy has died after being hit by a car as he crossed the road.
He was struck by the vehicle on Cumberland Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, at about 5.15pm on Wednesday.
The boy was taken to hospital where he died in the early hours of this morning.
A 44-year-old man who was driving the Peugeot 407 was not injured.
Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: “This was a serious incident which has tragically resulted in the death of a young boy.
“Specialist officers are carrying out inquiries and my thoughts are with the family at this time. Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the crash.
“At this time we are asking anyone who may have information, or who witnessed the crash, to please contact the Paisley Road policing unit on the non-emergency number 101.”
