The woman who sparked a worldwide debate about the colour of a dress has been flown to America by a major US chat show.
Caitlin McNeill left quiet Colonsay yesterday for the bright lights of Los Angeles.
The 21-year-old was unable to tell The Sunday Post which chat show she was set to appear on, but said she was very excited as she’d “never been to America before”.
She has been propelled to world-wide fame thanks to a picture of a dress she posted on a social media site.
Caitlin shared the photo after noticing her friends saw different colours in the photograph. Some people saw the dress as black and blue, others as white and gold.
The image quickly became an online sensation, with people, including celebrities, arguing over the dress’s original colours.
Caitlin said she is sworn to secrecy over what US show she’s due to appear on and was keeping tight-lipped on the subject but is thought to be flying to Los Angeles.
She may appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is based in LA. The chat show host took part in the online debate and is even said to have requested an overnight shipment of one of the infamous black-and-blue dresses.
Caitlin couldn’t contain her excitement as she prepared to meet with American TV producers.

She said: “I’m going over to the states for a wee bit. It’s all come about after the picture of the dress. I’m not allowed to say who I’m going over to talk to at the moment. I’ll be there for a couple of days. I’ve never been to America before!”
But it isn’t just Caitlin who has been drawn into the madness. Her bandmates in folk group Canach were also involved in the initial debate and are set to fly to Germany this week to discuss the whirlwind with TV shows there.
They’ve also been approached by producers of an American reality TV show who are keen to cover the story.
Alana MacInnes, from Uist, who plays the whistle and pipes in the band, will fly to Germany with fellow band member Robbie Greig.
Alana said: “The reaction the picture of the dress got has been incredible. I’ve barely slept for two days because the phone has been going constantly. It’s insane.
“Caitlin and I haven’t seen each other since she put the picture up but we managed to speak to each other on the phone just before she got on the plane. She can’t understand how it all got to this stage. It’s been great.”
The photograph that sent the internet into overdrive was taken by Cecilia Bleasdale as she tried to decide what to wear to her daughter Grace’s upcoming wedding. She sent the picture of the frock to Grace to ask what she thought.
Her daughter, in turn, shared it with her then-fiance, Kier Johnston.
The couple disagreed over the colours of the dress so Grace sought more opinions by posting the pic on Facebook. The debate was forgotten until Caitlin, a close friend of the newlyweds, posted the picture on Tumblr days after the wedding, which took place last Saturday on Colonsay.
It has since been shared millions of times and been debated by celebrities including reality star Kim Kardashian, rapper Kanye West and pop stars Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
