Teen girl dies after family car hits wall

Fatal crash in Altrincham
Fatal crash in Altrincham

The girl, who was believed to be in her early teens, was pronounced dead at the scene of the horror crash in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, yesterday.

A 45-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl were taken to hospital and remained in a “serious condition” last night, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The black Toyota Auris car was travelling “at speed” when it careered into the brick wall near a block of flats in Manchester Road, near Stamford Road, at about 10.50am.

A GMP spokesman said they discovered a man and two children, who are believed to be from the same family, in the vehicle.

They are now appealing to anyone who may have seen the crash.

Sergeant Brian Orr, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the family at this devastating time. We will be doing all that we can to support them.

“Our initial inquiries led us to believe that two young boys had fled the vehicle shortly after the collision.

“We now know this to be incorrect information and our search for any other passengers has been stood down.

“Our focus is now to find out how this collision happened and we are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch with police.”

Specially trained officers carried out “skid tests” at the scene to help detectives gather evidence establishing the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy has been charged with death by dangerous driving after another car crash near a Manchester girls’ school, which left three men dead.

Police yesterday confirmed that the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He is due to appear at Manchester Youth Court on May 16.

The white Audi S5 ploughed into two parked cars and a street sign on Wilbraham Road, near Whalley Range High School For Girls, in the early hours of April 27 after being followed by police.

Two men aged 20 and 24 were pronounced dead at the scene and a third man, aged, 21, died in hospital the following day.
