AN old score between bitter rivals Scotland and England is due to be settled – on Victorian bicycles.
A four-strong team from Scotland is due to take on the Auld Enemy in a polo match on Penny Farthing bicycles.
A charity clash between the two teams was held last year.
However, the game descended into cursing, angry challenges, injuries and gripes, with no one left satisfied after the game ended 7-7.
Now both teams are fired up for a fresh Battle of Britain.
Scotland captain David Fox-Pitt, 51, from Aberfeldy, Perthshire, said: “Last year there was lots of bad language, tantrums and some falls. It was a fierce battle.
“The crowd love it because of the crashes.”
The rules are the same as the horse-based game.
However, the match takes place on a smaller grass pitch, measuring 150 by 100 yards.
England captain Neil Laughton, 52, said “a very fierce rivalry” existed between the two teams.
“A couple of bikes were destroyed last year,” he said.
The clash will take place next month at Cowdray Park, West Sussex.
