The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will fly to old New York this afternoon for their first joint-visit to America’s largest city.
New York’s finest have fought for tickets to the receptions the couple will attend and royal fever is at its highest since the days of Princess Diana.
The couple will attend a private reception for the American Friends of the Royal Foundation, which assists the Cambridges and Prince Harry in promoting their philanthropic causes.
Kate, who is four-months pregnant, will visit a centre for child development in Harlem and the pair will watch an NBA basketball game which will feature a celebrity audience headed by Beyonce and Jay Z.
The couple’s second day will begin with a tour of the National September 11 Memorial Museum.
At night they will attend the University of St Andrews 600th Anniversary Dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Money raised will support scholarships and bursaries for students from under-privileged communities and for new sports facilities.
Guests have shelled out $100,000 for a ticket and celebrity attendees include Tom Hanks and opera star Renee Fleming.
The couple will then head for the airport for a late-night flight back to the UK and a reunion with Prince George at Kensington Palace.
