Perhaps you should have stayed away, Andy!
Jamie Murray’s dream of Wimbledon doubles glory ended in defeat last night.
And it might just have been brother Andy who jinxed the result!
Scot Jamie, 29, and his Australian partner John Peer, 26, crashed out in straight sets to Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer and Romanian Horia Tecau last night.
The pairing had enjoyed a remarkable run to the final and held the hopes of the whole nation after brother Andy’s defeat to Roger Federer on Friday.
But it seems their luck may have taken a turn for the worse the moment 28-year-old Andy arrived with wife Kim to watch the game.
In the run-up to the final, the 2012 singles champion said he tried to stay away from Jamie’s games because he feared he brought bad luck.
He revealed he rarely even watched Jamie on TV, because “it feels as though when I watch him, he loses”.
Even when Jamie won Wimbledon’s mixed doubles crown alongside Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in 2007, Andy stayed away from the match, and only ran to the court to see the last game “when it looked like they might win”.
But dressed in a green hooded top and baseball cap, Andy was there for the whole game, and looked increasingly pensive as the match slipped away.
Thousands of fans in the stands, and on Murray Mound at SW19, roared the pair on but it couldn’t prevent them going down to a 4-6, 6-7, 4-6 defeat.
Their mum Judy Murray, wearing a striped dress and sunglasses, also did her best to cheer on her son who held his serve throughout the game.
Among the dignitaries in the Royal Box was Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who posed for a photograph with former world number one Martina Navratilova.
Before the doubles final got underway she sent a “Come on Jamie” rallying cry on social media site Twitter.
Actress Dame Maggie Smith was among the other famous faces in the Royal Box hoping she might see a British winner at Wimbledon.
Earlier Centre Court was wowed by another masterclass from American star Serena Williams, 33, who brushed aside 21-year-old Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, to claim her sixth ladies’ singles gong.
She was roared on by an entourage of famous faces including actresses Rosamund Pike and Michelle Dockery, rapper Drake and her older sister Venus.
