Barbados hit Phil Tufnell for six!

Former England cricket star and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! winner Phil Tufnell loved the beaches of Barbados and the Jade Mountain resort in St Lucia.

He tells The Sunday Post about his favourite holiday experiences.

“My favourite childhood memory in the UK was the Norfolk Broads, where I used to go with my mum, dad and brother.

“We’d hire a boat and it was always great fun. After a day’s cruising around we’d always seem to moor up next to a pub and have a bit of dinner.

“Then we’d play a bit of football or cricket or do a bit of night fishing off the boat. I’ve got really fond memories of those times.

“The other holidays were to the Spanish Costas, but it’s really through cricket that I’ve travelled the most. Probably the favourite place I went to through the game was Barbados.

“I was very luck to tour there with England and have gone back on many occasions since. The beaches are really special with gorgeous palm trees. I love just mooching around and then pulling up for a rum punch at some little shack or bar.

“The food’s great and I really like the craic. If you want a bit of a boogie you’ll find that, but you can also just chill out and relax. It’s the best of both worlds.

“To be honest, when I’m on holiday, I’m definitely there just to unwind. I might have a little read of a magazine or do a bit of jet-skiing, but doing nothing’s my favourite occupation.

“I’ve also been to Australia quite a few times, with and without the cricket. I’ve done just about all the main cities, but Sydney’s my favourite. There’s just something about the vibe.

“The harbour’s obviously spectacular, but the whole place is lovely, even right out into the suburbs. The nicest hotel I think I’ve ever stayed in was at the Jade Mountain resort in St Lucia. It was like something out of Doctor No.

“It’s set so high in the mountains that you have fantastic views of the Pitons World Heritage Site and the beautiful Caribbean. And there’s no chance of missing those views as the rooms only have three walls.

“The fourth side is completely open. There’s an infinity pool here so you literally have a swimming pool in your own room. Fortunately, the weather is fantastic so the fact you’re open to the elements isn’t a worry.

“I wouldn’t fancy a hotel trying that back home! The only problem we had at all was that the birds would wake you up ridiculously early every morning!”

Phil Tufnell’s latest telly appearance is on new Dave series 24 Hours To Go Broke. Five pairs of celebrities try to spend £10,000 in a day in a foreign country, but have strict rules on how they get rid of the cash. His partner is Glasgow comedian Susan Calman. 24 Hours to Go Broke starts on Tuesday May 13 at 10pm on Dave.
