Annual Algarve trips are a dream come true for Strictly Come Dancing, Britain’s Got Talent and This Morning beauty expert.
“I’ve been to Portugal every single year of my life. We went as a family all the time when I was a kid and about 10 years ago my parents bought a house there.
It’s like a dream. I never get bored of going and as soon as you drop your bags you relax. It’s in the Algarve on the outskirts of Albufeira.
I love being by the sea. My parents have a speedboat and one of my favourite things is to take that out.
We tend to avoid the main touristy times and I remember once in September seeing dolphins swimming past. It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.
I just love the water in general. I’ll go swimming off the rocks or find little secluded beaches. The food is fantastic and the rule is to go wherever the Portuguese go.
The fish and the piri piri chicken are wonderful. Just being out there makes me feel really happy. I’m just back from a holiday in Las Vegas where I went with four of the girls I work with on Strictly.
It was a real girlie holiday. We actually only gambled twice, just roulette because we were scared to do anything else.
We won $350 and were so chuffed we stopped at that in case we lost it and went and had a really nice dinner with our winnings. We did a lot of other fun stuff like riding with cowboys in the desert and seeing shows.
I also have family out in Australia and I’ve travelled there a lot. When I was 18 we did a road trip which was one of the most brilliant experiences.
Then two years ago I went back with my best friend and we did the east coast from Cairns to Sydney, including the Great Barrier Reef. The differences between travelling when you’re 18 and 30 are really interesting.
At 18 you don’t mind sharing a room with nine people in a hostel and cooking together. But at 30 when we were all cooking in this big communal area all I could think about was hygiene.
The fact that everyone was chopping up on the same board had me panicking about salmonella. I just kept thinking that we were so old that we were caring about that!”
