“You may or may not like the outcome but bitterness is not the answer”
It’s daft to let differences of opinion on politics cause a rift between friends or family.
But last week I met a woman who said she’d been very hurt by her friend’s reaction when she told her how she’d voted in the referendum.
“There’s been a definite coolness between us since,” she said. “And she cancelled our monthly lunch date.”
I know feelings run high on this issue. It’s understandable that if you care passionately about something, you want the people who matter to you to feel the same.
But democratic freedom is one of our greatest achievements and that means allowing others to vote according to their conscience.
You may or may not like the outcome but bitterness is not the answer.
No more bickering about the referendum please we’re all in this together.
