The lovely Dolly Parton invited me back to her home in Nashville for a chat. Her latest country and western album, Blue Smoke, is her biggest selling in the UK. It spent a staggering 12 weeks in the Top 10, so it’s getting a fancy Christmas re-release. She asked me about my book, Taking Hollywood, then wondered if she could have a signed copy. “Is it Dolly with an ‘ie’ or a ‘y’?” I asked. I did warn her there were some raunchy bits. But she told me she loves those parts the best! We had a chat about her favourite Christmas food, and she immediately answered dumplings.
