Paltrow and Bullock still shining bright in Hollywood.
There are only two women in my life. On the one hand there’s my lovely missus, Brianna, and on the other there’s my telly, radio and Sunday Post colleague, Lorraine Kelly.
Two other women gave them both a run for their money last week, though.
Sorry, ladies, but I’ve been hanging out with Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock.
I interviewed the two of them for Daybreak and they were both on great form.
Gwyneth was there to promote her latest movie, Thanks For Sharing, a romantic comedy about a group of people undergoing treatment for sex addiction.
She was as graceful and beautiful as ever, which was impressive considering it was first thing in the morning.
I had prepared myself for anything Gwyneth has a bit of a reputation for being difficult.
Even the cameraman was getting the jitters, as it’s his job to fix microphones to celebrities we interview and sometimes they can get a bit nippy if it becomes a fuss.
Well, you would too if you had a strange man pawing at you first thing in the morning!
But Gwyneth was lovely and very pleasant to us. We were chatting before she went on camera and she’s actually a fan of Daybreak.
Gwyneth, of course, lived in London for a decade with her husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay, so she’d tuned in to the show when she was here.
She was relaxed and joking around with us and told me how she’s been “out of things” for a few months.
She’s been chilling at home and hadn’t done any work or interviews for a few months.
Just before the camera rolled she said: “Oh no, I’ve got to be Gwyneth Paltrow again!” and immediately became a consummate professional.
We spoke a lot about what she likes to get up to at home. Gwyneth is a real foodie and has written four cookbooks.
She told me about a special gift Chris gave her for Christmas.
“I’ve always cooked and been obsessed with cooking,” she explained.
“One year, Chris gave me a Jamie Oliver cookbook and I said I’d been wanting that book for a while.
“Chris told me to open it on the inside Jamie had written, ‘I’m going to come and cook for you, love Jamie Oliver’.
“He came over and he cooked a gorgeous duck ragu and a delicious fish dish.
“It was such a great night, it was really amazing.”
Duck ragu with Jamie Oliver, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow that puts the pie, chips and beans I had in front of the TV last night into perspective.
If Mrs Coldplay looks great for 41, then how about Sandra Bullock?
She’s 49 and has recently featured on the cover of Vogue, looking smashing.
It doesn’t seem that long ago Sandra burst on to our screens in the action thriller, Speed. Incredibly, that was way back in 1994.
She’s back in a leading role following her amazing performance in The Blind Side.
It won her an Oscar and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was named on the nominees list again for her latest role in the thriller, Gravity.
She’s supported in the movie by George Clooney, but Sandra is the one that really shines.
For the role, Sandra was taken up in a plane that simulates weightlessness. It’s known as the Vomit Comet as you get thrown around so much, you’re bound to be sick.
Sounds like a particularly stressful Ryanair flight I was on a while ago!
She had to film in a full spacesuit. Unfortunately, Sandra has two fears flying and enclosed spaces!
Luckily, she had George Clooney on hand to cheer her up. They both did impressions of the Mexican director, Alfonso Cuaron, the man behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men.
Sandra said Alfonso told her in his thick accent that he’d “like to put herpes in the ear”.
She was a wee bit afraid until she realised Alfonso was saying he’d like to put an EARPIECE in her ear!
The movie is released in the UK on November 8 and it’s brilliant.
