It’s easy to be cynical working in the media while living in Los Angeles.
You hear so many tales of cut-throat agents and starlets on the wane that it can make you a bit jaded even me!
But I’ve had one of the most fantastic weeks out here. In the past few weeks alone I’ve interviewed The Rock, George Clooney and Nancy Sinatra.
They were all great but none compare to meeting Sean O’Brien.
You may have heard about this ordinary guy’s dream trip to Los Angeles last week.
A couple of weeks ago, Sean, from Liverpool, was at a gig and started dancing. He’s a bit on the heavy side so an onlooker whipped out their camera phone and uploaded the picture of him online.
“Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week. He stopped when he saw us laughing,” they said.
It was a bit cruel and they probably thought everyone would join in but instead people rallied round Sean.
There was a surge of support on Twitter and Facebook as millions backed Sean, who was nicknamed The Dancing Man and railed against him being “fat shamed”.
A writer here in LA then organised a trip for Sean to come out here and visit last week to raise awareness of bullying.
What a week it was for The Dancing Man and I got to hang around with him on a couple of his days here.
We had a nice chat and gave me a big hug when we met I think he’d been having the time of his life.
Sean and I even had a dance-off at the party too.
He got to hang out with Monica Lewinsky herself a victim of online bullying and he even danced with pop star Meghan “All About That Bass” Trainor.
He threw the first pitch at an LA Dodgers game (the equivalent to doing the half-time raffle at Firhill) and the musicians Andrew WK and Moby attended a party thrown in his honour.
He even got to go on a date with the incredibly attractive model Dita Von Teese.
Sean appeared to take it all in his stride, brilliantly. He’s just an ordinary scouser and a lovely guy.
“It was daunting at first,” he said. “I was a bit worried about how it happened but it’s turned into the most wonderful journey.
“I’ve met some of the most wonderful people you can imagine. It’s been truly life changing.”
I really do have the best job in the world sometimes!
