Rising star has his head in clouds after Best Actor nod.
There’s nothing that can lift your spirits like being around a person who’s in a great mood.
And there’s no one in a better mood ANYWHERE than Eddie Redmayne.
The British actor has gone from seemingly nowhere to the man of the moment here in Hollywood.
It’s all thanks to his role as Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
I met Eddie for a chat last week and it wasn’t surprising that in the wake of his nomination for Best Actor in this year’s Academy Awards, you could feel the energy coming from him.
“It’s too much! It’s not sinking in,” he grinned. “It feels like I’m floating on a cloud above myself.
“It’s an amazing feeling. Give me a week or three and it’ll sink in.
“I spoke with my wife Hannah on the phone right after I got nominated and we just had a tennis match of screams down the phone.”
He was in such a good mood I almost felt bad tipping Michael Keaton to beat him to the Oscar last week!
It didn’t seem like anything could bring down Eddie, though, who’s gone from strength to strangth since starring in Les Miserables.
I told him that from now on, even if he didn’t win, every time he’s in a trailer for a movie it’ll say, “starring Academy Award nominee…”
“Oh my God, I hadn’t thought of that,” he gasped. “That is amazing! I haven’t thought of winning. To be in that group of actors is incredible.
“A couple of years ago I got to sing at the Oscars with Les Miserables. I never thought I’d get to go back, never mind as a nominee.”
I’ve seen Eddie a few times on the red carpet and, while he’s always been friendly, he’s always disappeared quite fast.
Some people thought he was aloof, but in reality he’s just a bit shy. That seems to be changing he couldn’t have been more open and happy to talk.
Eddie really is fantastic as Stephen Hawking it’s one of those performances where you forget you’re watching an actor play the part.
Eddie is pals with the other Brit nominated for Best Actor Benedict Cumberbatch. I wondered if there was a rivalry with the man who plays Sherlock.
“I’ve not spoken with him but we texted earlier this morning,” added Eddie.
“We exchanged a lot of exclamation marks. Benedict and I worked on some of the same films, so to be nominated at the same time this is the stuff that dreams are made of!”
Certainly is, Eddie. I doubt this will be the last time he’s on the Oscars shortlist.
