A senior SNP MP has called on Prime Minister’s Questions to be reformed.
Stephen Gethins is a former advisor to Alex Salmond. He was elected MP for North East Fife last month.
But after just three sessions of Prime Minister’s Questions he says it should be changed.
Talking on the Sunday Post Politics Podcast Gethins said: “There’s a big turn off between the voters and the circus of PMQs when everyone is shouting at each other.”
He added: “I don’t like the way the chamber is set up to be confrontational.”
And in an apparent contradiction of his leader Nicola Sturgeon he seemed to question David Cameron’s right to rule in Scotland.
Last weekend the First Minister was forced to concede that David Cameron is Prime Minister of the entire United Kingdom despite only having one Conservative MP in Scotland.
However Gethins said: “His mandate runs out at Gretna in some ways.
“The Tories only got 37% of the vote at the election but under our system that gives them a majority and means they can do whatever they like. I’m not sure that’s a good way to run the country.”
