more than a quarter of a million working Scottish families almost a fifth of all households with at least one person in work will be hit by Westminster plans to cut tax credits, it has been claimed.
Scottish Labour say 261,000 Scots families in work will be hit by the cut, which will be debated in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
They add that the average family is set to lose £279 because of Government changes coming into effect this year.
Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Margaret Curran, said the Coalition Government had promised they would balance the books fairly.
“The best way to get the welfare bill down is to get people off the dole and back to work, “ she said.
“This is no time to be hitting people with another unfair cut.”
