The Hoops have been charged by UEFA with improper conduct in relation to their on-field discipline in the Europa League loss to Inter Milan on Thursday night.
The Scottish champions have also been separately charged by the ruling European body for the setting off of fireworks by spectators in the San Siro.
It is the first that is of particular concern to Commons, one of six Celtic players shown the yellow card by controversial referee, Ivan Kruziak.
Virgil van Dijk received a second yellow and was sent off before half-time, a decision that infuriated his team-mates and was partially responsible for midfielder Commons’ caution.
As he explained, that came after the final whistle for his verbal blast at the Slovakian official.
“It was a yellow card for dissent,” he confirmed. “I don’t think a referee should be able to leave the field and not have any sort of feedback.
“The Europa League was a big competition for us, and we feel as if we had enough to go through on the night.
“He has done us out of possibly reaching the next round. Going down to 10 men didn’t help us. We knew we needed to have 11 on the park to have some chance of getting through the tie.
“The sending-off looked a harsh one, to be honest. Virgil feels aggrieved. He didn’t feel the first booking was a yellow. He feels that he won the ball and even if he didn’t, it’s never a yellow card.
“It’s two very soft challenges, and to have him walk off the park after 20 minutes or whatever is very harsh.
“I don’t know what I’m allowed to say and what I’m not but we felt disappointed with some of the referee’s decisions.
“It’s a difficult job he has to do. But when it came to the basics, it just seemed as if he was way off the pace.
“He didn’t really know what to do. He wasn’t even making big decisions, he was just making wrong decisions.
“It was terrible. It is a difficult job and very hard for all officials, but when you have six working on the one game, you shouldn’t get that many decisions wrong.
“We’ll take a lot of experience from this because European football is a big step up for this group of lads.
“We just feel a bit hard done by.”
Commons’ reference to what he is and isn’t allowed to say is significant.
UEFA, who automatically charge clubs that incur five bookings or more in any one game, could also take action over the post-game comments from the defeated Celts.
In addition to Commons, Virgil van Dijk described Kruziak’s display in Milan as “horrible”, and John Guidetti was also publicly scathing about the official.
