Liverpool’s Jordon Ibe’s agent is his mum and dad!

Jordon Ibe was amazed to get the call from Brendan Rodgers to return from his loan spell at Derby County.

Liverpool fans needn’t worry that Jordon Ibe will ever have his future dictated by an agent.

The 19-year-old winger doesn’t have one!

He insists he “doesn’t believe in them” and instead leaves everything to his mum and dad.

Ibe is following an almost identical career path to that recently mapped out by Raheem Sterling.

But where Sterling’s contract talks have reached an impasse for which boss Brendan Rodgers blames his agent, Ibe’s new deal is being negotiated by his mother Charlett and step-dad Michael.

“My parents are sorting it out,” says Ibe. “Hopefully everything will be done by the end of the season.

“I don’t believe in having an agent. I don’t really see the need for one.

“I think my parents are the best people to do the job. There’s nothing an agent can do for me that my parents can’t.

“My dad has supported Liverpool from the John Barnes days, though that’s not why I came here. I just thought it is a great club.

“They first came in for me when I was 14 but I was enjoying being at Wycombe and I didn’t want to leave home.

“When Liverpool came back and the time was right, I moved to Merseyside with my parents. I still live with them.”

Liverpool plucked Sterling from the QPR Academy at the age of 15. However, Ibe had already played seven first-team games for Wycombe at the same age when he moved.

He scored a spectacular goal for the Chairboys on his first League start and promptly got himself booked for running across to his mum in the stand to celebrate!

“On the Monday, I watched the goal again on BBC iPlayer with my science class in school,” he recalls. “I never lived that celebration down!

“My mum has always kept me humble and obviously I trust my parents to do what’s best for me.

“I was on loan at Derby County earlier this season and expected to be there for the whole campaign. But the gaffer rang me in January to say he wanted me to come back early.

“I worried that I might not get many matches but I spoke to my parents and they said: ‘If the manager wants you back, you’d better get back there!’

“Since then I’ve been involved in most games so I’m delighted.”

Despite him and Sterling getting a dressing-down from Rodgers after recent embarrassing pictures of the two of them with a shisha pipe, Ibe insists that the England star has been a positive influence on his development.

“His mentality is the big thing,” says Ibe. “If things are not going his way, Raheem (left) will still deliver. That’s one thing I’m trying to learn from him.

“He’s definitely someone I look up to.”

When Rodgers handed Ibe his first Premier League start in the cauldron of the Merseyside Derby at Goodison in February skipper Steven Gerrard described the youngster as “sensational” and “a bit of Sterling and Daniel Sturridge rolled into one”.

Ibe confesses he will be the poorer for losing Gerrard’s guidance when the skipper leaves later this month.

“He’s been a big influence,” he confirms. “He’s helped a lot of the young lads.

“Sometimes he doesn’t have to say anything. It’s just the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.

“He’s a real role model and you just want to play to the best of your ability when he’s in the side.

“I wanted to play with him from the minute I joined the club. It’s just a shame he has to leave now.”
