Milan poised with £8m bid for Forster

Fraser Forster is on AC Milan’s radar after his Champions League exploits this season.

The Celtic goalkeeper produced an excellent performance against the Italians last month in the San Siro, despite his side going down 2-0.

And his heroic display at home to Barcelona in the competition’s latest round of matches was enough to trigger a serious interest in signing him from the Serie A giants.

Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri is determined to land a new shot-stopper during the January transfer window, and is eyeing up a possible move for the Englishman.

The Italian club were keen to try and sign CSKA Moscow keeper Igor Akinfeev in a cut-price deal with his contract ending at the end of the

season.

But Forster’s performances have caught their attention, and it’s believed the 25-year-old is now featuring high up on Allegri’s wanted list.

Neil Lennon is desperate to hold on to his No.1 but knows it is only a matter of time before he wants to leave Scotland to further his international career.

Forster is desperate to be included in the England squad which is on course for the World Cup Finals in Brazil in the summer, and believes playing in the SPFL is holding him back.

Current England No.1 Joe Hart has been under pressure after recent blunders for Manchester City.

Roy Hodgson has so far failed to cap Forster, but it’s understood the plan is to play him in a friendly fixture in November should they not have to take part in the World Cup play-offs.

However, should Celtic be heading out of Europe by that stage, Forster is likely to prefer to move on in a bid to salvage his international ambitions.

He’s already left the door open for a January move and has also been linked with a switch to Barcelona after impressing a number of their superstars in their 2-0 win at Parkhead.

Benfica are another club who remain keen to secure Forster’s signature, but the lure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football make Milan serious

contenders.

Milan keeper Christian Abbiati signed a one-year deal in the summer, but the 36-year-old’s performances have been far from convincing.

It would, of course, take a significant offer to tempt Celtic into selling the former Newcastle United and Norwich keeper.

So Milan are likely to have to stump up around £8-million to secure his services.
