Bilel Mohsni can’t wait to make up for lost time by finally making his Rangers debut.
But the Ibrox defender won’t be complaining to Ally McCoist if he doesn’t walk straight into the team.
Mohsni has cut a frustrated figure so far this term after his Rangers career was put on hold because of the registration wrangle which prevented several of the new players from making their competitive debuts.
He’s finally available for selection when the Light Blues return to action at home to Arbroath on Saturday.
However, Mohsni admits he isn’t taking it for granted that every new arrival will walk straight into the starting line-up.
“It will be down to the manager who plays in the game,” says the stopper. “But the team has performed very well so far this season.
“In the last two League matches, we have won 6-0 and 5-0 so you have to say the players in the team have performed very well.
“So we will wait and see. Obviously myself and some of the other players have been training hard without playing in any of the competitive games, and some of the others have played as trialists.
“It will be great to finally play but if we must be patient for an opportunity then that is the situation.”
Mohsni watched Lee McCulloch score a hat-trick of headers last weekend against East Fife as Nicky Clark also marked his competitive debut with a goal.
With Jon Daly expected to return to lead the line, McCulloch could offer competition for a place at the heart of the defence to the Frenchman.
But the former Southend and Ipswich defender believes it is the same for every single position in the team.
He says: “There are at least two players for every position. So everyone must work hard and perform well to be in the team. We all know that.
“To be successful, you have to have competition to push every player and at Rangers we certainly have that.
“I think that is what the manager wanted to create this season. We have a good mixture of experienced players and exciting young players, so I’m sure we can all play a part in a successful season.”
And Mohsni sees no reason why that can’t include successful Cup runs now they are back to full strength.
“Why not?” he replies when asked if they can aim to go all the way in the Scottish Cup this term.
“We have new players, we have a new team again and we feel we can do well against all the teams even if they are in a higher division.
“We have a lot to aim for this season. We want to win the title and win promotion.
“But we also want to do well in the two cup competitions we are still involved in. It is an exciting time for the club.”
