I could barely hear myself think these past few days over the noise of gleeful footballers’ agents rubbing their hands together.
And with £5-billion of TV money set to be pumped into the English Premier League from 2016, who can blame them.
Just think, in a couple of years’ time, every four weeks even average players will be raking in a million quid and kicking up a chunk to the guys who do their deals.
It’s dizzying and it’s something the authorities have a responsibility to stop.
The increase in revenues MUST be used to benefit fans rather than flying straight into players and agents’ pockets.
Ticket prices should be frozen at the very least. You could even argue they should be reduced.
If some of this cash isn’t used to bring football back to the punters, I can see folk turning away from the game, leaving it to foreigners and armchair fans.
That would be a disaster and it’s one the Premier League and the FA must work to avert.
