CELTIC goalkeeper Craig Gordon wants to make sure their Champions League encounter against Manchester City is not just a great occasion – but a memorable result for the Scottish side.
The atmosphere at a sold-out Celtic Park is sure to be intense but Brendan Rodgers’ men are looking to restore pride after being on the end of the club’s record European defeat in their opening group game, a 7-0 thrashing by Barcelona.
Gordon is aiming to make his debut in the full Champions League but he wants to savour a victory rather than just tick a box.
The 33-year-old – who is hoping to get the nod to start ahead of injury doubt Dorus de Vries – told Celtic TV: “It’s a huge game. We didn’t do too well in the last one and we want to put that right. We want a better performance, especially at home.
“We want to go out there and give it a right good go. Especially with these fans behind us, we are always going to give ourselves a chance against anybody.
“It will be nice to get everybody back here. It’s always difficult away from home in the Champions League, we know that.
“It will be my first taste of an actual Champions League game here and I’ll be desperate to get a start. But whatever happens it’s going to be a great occasion. But we want to do our jobs and take something from the game.”
