RANGERS captain Lee Wallace won’t be making a Scotland return against Malta.
The left-back, who was called up as a replacement to Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, is suffering a muscle strain.
Wallace is instead travelling with the Rangers squad and medical team to Belfast, where the light blues face Linfield in a friendly tomorrow.
Speculation over Wallace’s withdrawal spread on social media after he was pictured on the flight to Northern Ireland.
He was shown on Rangers’ Snapchat account posing beside Kenny Miller.
Fans were quick to suggest that he had snubbed the national team in the wake of the SFA’s handling of the scenes at the end of May’s Scottish Cup Final between Rangers and Hibs, however it has been confirmed that injury is the reason behind his withdrawal.
Hull City’s Andy Robertson is the only remaining left-back in the Scotland squad, with no further call-ups being made.
