Andy Robertson’s move to Hull City is set to provide Queen’s Park with a bumper £300,000 windfall.
Dundee United and Scotland star Robertson is thrashing out personal terms with the Tigers after United accepted a bid worth £3m late last week.
The highly-rated full-back’s move could be completed as early as tomorrow, bringing the total value of transfer fees scooped by the Tangerines this summer to around £6m.
But thanks to a 10% sell-on clause agreed between the clubs when Robertson moved from Hampden to Tannadice last summer, the Spiders will cash in too.
The clause was inserted into the deal as a direct alternative to an up-front development fee, which the amateur side had pressed for at the time. Such an arrangement would have netted them a one-off sum towards the lower end of five figures, and left them out of any future deals for the player. Instead, Queen’s will now reap a share of the benefits from the 20-year-old’s big-money move to the Barclay’s Premier League.
And the scale of the Spiders’ share has been boosted by United chairman Stephen Thompson’s staunch refusal to sell for less than his £3m valuation. The Tangerines knocked back FOUR bids from Hull before finally accepting a fifth late on Thursday night, after Tigers boss Steve Bruce urged his Board to stump up the cash.
Meanwhile, Robertson is set to be the last player to leave Tannadice this summer but more could yet arrive. It’s understood that once Robertson’s departure is confirmed, United will not look to offload any more stars before the transfer window closes.
Gary Mackay-Steven, who has just one year remaining on his contract, had been tipped to leave Tannadice after stalling on a new deal, but he will now remain in Jackie McNamara’s squad.
And it’s believed the Tangerines are still chasing two new signings to add to the five who have already arrived, including a direct replacement for Robertson at left-back.
