FIFA’S attack on England’s 2018 World Cup bid was as pathetic as it was predictable.
It was the most blatant attempt at misdirection I’ve seen coming out of Zurich in ages and that’s saying something.
The fact that the governing body’s own ethics committee have produced a report effectively clearing themselves of wrongdoing during bidding for 2018 and 2022 is hardly surprising.
They were never going to do anything else.
But for them to take a cheap swipe at England in doing so, accusing the FA of damaging the integrity of the process, is utterly laughable.
Anyone with even half a brain can see what’s going on here.
Those at the top of FIFA and Sepp Blatter in particular are angry at the UK media for exposing rife corruption within their organisation. As a result, they will take any chance they can to have a dig at England and the FA.
It’s hypocrisy of the highest order an example of the kind of selective morals that have poisoned FIFA for decades.
But no-one should be surprised they’ve gone down this road because they are rotten to the core.
