A stunning second-half display from Raith Rovers helped the Kirkcaldy side recover from defeat in the
Challenge Cup midweek at the hands of Dunfermline, as they swept aside the challenge of Dumbarton to record an opening day victory in their campaign.
Raith were dealt an early blow when Calum Elliot hobbled off after 10 minutes.
The visitors appeared to be well in command as the first half progressed with their experienced frontline pairing of Archie Campbell and Colin Nish causing problems, and they almost opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Nish released Campbell who stung Cuthbert’s palms with a firmly struck angular shot.
Rovers looked a different side after the break, and they took lead when Christian Nade headed Rory McKeown’s long throw down to Paul Watson who drove the ball home.
Ryan Conroy put the Fifers two ahead 12 minutes from time when he curled a 20-yard free kick past in, and Nade put the result beyond doubt with a superb individual effort three minutes later, although Sons substitute Scott Agnew pulled one back in stoppage time.
