The top flight should now only be one season away for Rangers and Ally McCoist.
Ally McCoist might want to make signings to improve his squad ahead of their assault on the Championship.
But Rangers should already be good enough to win that division, even if they are forced to go with the same group of players that have just won League One.
I fully understand why Ally would want to bring in some new faces and increase the quality in certain positions.
If he didn’t, he’d be the only manager in the business with no aspirations of making his team better in the summer.
Given the current financial situation at Ibrox, however, and the fact the Chief Executive Graham Wallace has already suggested cuts, I’m not so sure any new players will be coming in between now and the start of the next campaign.
That won’t please McCoist but it shouldn’t stop him guiding the side back into the top flight after their years in the wilderness.
I’m not suggesting for a second the standard of teams Rangers will be facing in the Championship next season won’t be higher than what they’ve been up against this season.
Of course they will. And I’m also convinced Rangers will find it a lot tougher.
Put it this way, I can’t see them winning 26 and drawing just two of their opening 28 League games next term.
It won’t be as easy as it has been this season.
The bottom line, however, is Rangers have a team that should be good enough to hold their own in the Premiership.
It isn’t good enough to win the title ahead of Celtic at the first time of asking, so new blood is needed to have them back really challenging their Old Firm rivals once again.
But when they have a team packed with players who were the best at top-flight clubs before they moved to Rangers, then I think they’d hold their own.
Therefore, they should be more than good enough to win the Championship.
The fitness levels of the other clubs will be better and so will the standard of player, but Rangers would still be superior to them.
So if Ally doesn’t get his way but also isn’t forced to sell then I still believe the squad should be good enough to win the title. But right now his focus will be on the Scottish Cup.
He’ll get little or no credit for winning League One and the Ramsdens Cup. But he will if he wins a major trophy.
Rangers have managed to avoid Premier League opposition, and the big test should come against Dundee United in the semi-finals.
That’s the game we all want to see, as it would be a guage of just exactly where Rangers are at in relation to leading Premiership opposition.
First and foremost, they’ve got to do 10 times better than last weekend and defeat Albion Rovers in Monday’s replay.
If they don’t, you have to wonder if Ally will be around for any buying and selling this summer.
